David Mark Mandell
July 18, 1961 - May 11, 2020

David Mark Mandell, age 58, died unexpectedly but peacefully on Monday May 11, 2020, at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Virginia.

David is survived by a large and loving family including his mother, Pauline Caron and her husband Tommy, of York County, Virginia and his father, Richard Mandell, of York County, Virginia. He had three beautiful children, Justin Mandell and his wife, Michelle along with their two children Ethan and Colin; his daughter Jessica Mandell and her longtime partner, Thomas, and their daughter, Ella; and his daughter, Emily Jones and her husband, Mason, and their son Elijah. His sister Terri Harman and her husband, Elton; his sister Robin Wilson and her husband, Willie; and his brother Steven Mandell. David also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Mandell, his grandson, Adrian Mandell, and his step-mother, Christine Mandell.

David was born on July 18, 1961 in Ridgewood, New Jersey to parents Pauline Sanchez Caron and Richard Myron Mandell. He graduated from Hampton High School in Hampton, Virginia.

David was a great family man and a loving father and grandfather. He loved his children, grandchildren, family, and friends fiercely. He loved spending time with his grandchildren more than anything. He always made it a point to ask how they were doing and if they needed anything. He showed great patience in all things that he did; he was an excellent listener and a good friend to all, always finding common ground with others. He enjoyed chatting about his grandchildren and was looking forward to seeing how they’d succeed in life.

He was instrumental in helping young kids to learn the importance of teambuilding and leadership coaching baseball at  Wythe Little League.  Through his years of coaching, his players affectionately referred to him as “Pops.”

He was a lover of music, often traveling far and wide to see live shows for the artists that interested him.

David was also a skilled tradesman, having knowledge in many elements of construction and mechanical based work.  He was always quick to help family and friends with any projects they had, often on short notice and free of charge to assist those in need and always imparting knowledge of his skills on those he assisted.

At this time, there are no services planned due to the pandemic.  The family will have a celebration of life when they are able to include all of David’s family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in David’s name to the American Lung Association.

The family of David would like to thank everyone for the love and support they received during this difficult time.

Dear Terri, I am so very sorry that you and your family have to go through another tragedy losing someone so young as we lost Gary. It was an honor to be a part of the care team that took care of Gary and I miss his smile and positivity. On Mother’s Day I stopped by Gary’s Grave at Peninsula Memorial Park and I paid my Respects to Gary. May David Marks Memory always be for a Blessing like his brother Gary. G-D Bless you and your wonderful Family at this very sad time. Very respectfully your, Ed Olshansky.
